“First let me start by saying that I am very pleased with Betsy’s work and I look forward to future projects. The accelerated effort she has put into the project the past month or so are much appreciated.
As for the changes she proposed, all I can say is, wow, she is good! They were the only thing that made sense, so I was happy to have her do so… I very much like the verbal, language changes she’s made. It still feels like my book, only better. “

“Betsy Herman has allowed my work to blossom by showing me the power of structure and language. She maintains my baseline. She allows me to be creative but not so abstract that my words are misunderstood. She is teaching me but also facilitating my art in a casual and positive way. I am becoming a credible writer through Betsy and I think that anyone who hires her can only benefit from her style and knowledge. Whether it’s technical writing or fiction, Betsy can only sharpen a writer’s skill.”

“Betsy helped me realize the things I needed to know to make my essay better. I wasn’t understanding it before but now I am more confident after her help. She has a way of explaining things that I can relate to.”

“I cannot thank Betsy (Elizabeth Herman) enough for helping me complete this rite of passage. I could not have done it without her help. Handing the questions to the secretary, and then walking to see one of my professors in her office, I knew that it left my best game yet on the field – so to speak. I was thinking afterward about the essays that we worked on together, and really appreciate the unique depth of each of them. I believe that working with Betsy and Vital Writer Services really helped me understand my creative process better. So again I feel incredible gratitude for all the help.”

“I asked Betsy to review a critical paper for my research in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Betsy read and commented on the paper within hours. I had excellent comments on use of prepositions, choice of words and even on use of quotes from other articles. After Betsy’s comments I had a much more improved draft of my research paper.”

Here is a note written by one of my past tutoring clients, who went on to complete his Ph. D.:
Betsy,
Thank you very much for the book and everything you have given me in the past few months. Your students are lucky to have you as their teacher.

And this letter came from a more recent student in one of my English Composition classes:

To whom it may concern,
I am writing this today to formally and happily recommend Ms. Herman for the Graduate Assistant of the Year award. I had the pleasure of having Ms. Herman as my instructor for English 102 during the Spring 2007 semester. As my instructor, she helped me really progress as a writer and as a student in general. Along with the major papers that were assigned, Ms. Herman assigned smaller, more introspective assignments that really helped with getting the creative juices flowing. Some unique and innovative activities Ms. Herman integrated into the class were deep breathing exercises and meditation. Before this, I had never had any type of experience with meditation or deep breathing. I found that these alternative exercises really brought me to ground level after a long day of class and definitely helped me get through the whole writing process a lot easier. Ms. Herman, by far, has been the most innovative and sympathetic graduate assistant I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with in my 2 years here at SIU, and I truly hope that she gets the recognition she deserves.

i feel like this was a lot of reading about a lot of different things. I think that by me reading this you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. There are a lot of positive feed backs or testimonials , so you must be doing your thing girl!!I hope i get out of your class what you have to offer. Sometimes i just don’t understand it , but i try really hard. It won’t happen over night.
